Alan Bernstein
Co-owner, Business Manager/Sales
Alan Bernstein holds a Master’s degree in Nursing Administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Bernstein had an esteemed career in nursing and sterile processing. He served the Veterans Administration (VA) for 27 years, retiring as a member of the Senior Executive Service (SES). He excelled as a Nurse Executive/Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and was awarded the “VA Secretary’s Award for Nursing Excellence”.
Mr. Bernstein was appointed the SES Deputy Chief Nursing Officer for the Veterans Healthcare Administration (VHA) and was responsible for leading the VHA nursing workforce of 105,000 nursing personnel.
Mr. Bernstein had the honor of serving as the Deputy for the Deputy Assistant Undersecretary (DDACS) for Clinical Services for the VHA.
Mr. Bernstein’s final role at VHA before retirement was as the SES Executive Director of the VHA National Office of Sterile Processing (OSP). In this role, Mr. Bernstein enhanced national education for all Sterile Processing Services (SPS) within VHA to include CNOs and frontline technicians. He led the national program office through the revision and development of the SPS National Policy. He spearheaded the development of the OSP Process Oversight review, transitioning the program office to focus on education and training to strengthen practices at the local level. Mr. Bernstein’s career is marked by accomplishments that have enhanced the shared human experience and improved care for for Veterans and civilian patients alike. The VHA Undersecretary for Health endorsed Mr. Bernstein twice for the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States (AMSUS).
Don Fisher
Co-owner, Primary Consultant
Mr. Fisher has 4 years in the Army, the first 3 years were with the Army Honor Guard and Escort to the President, as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, with the last year being in the Operating Room as a Surgical Technician. Mr. Fisher has a total of 23 years with the Veterans Affairs working between (6 years) in the Operating Room and (17 years) in Sterile Processing, 13 of those years he has worked for the National Program Office at the Veterans Affairs as a consultant for the Sterile Processing supporting the Veterans Healthcare Administration (VHA) the Undersecretary for Health and local Veterans Affairs Healthcare Systems before he retired from the Federal Government.
Mr. Fisher has been on action teams for the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Standards, as well as white papers and VA National Directives.
He has attended AAMI/Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) conferences for the last 9 years for continued education.
